STAFF
The Aberfoyle Hub Veterinary Clinic is owned and run by husband-and-wife Veterinary Surgeons, Ian Mather and Barb Menzies. Supporting their endeavors are Associate Veterinarian Karl Ong; Veterinary Nurses Lauren Green, Erin Harris, Rhonda Gibbs-Ponder, Aimee Freckleton and Katye Lemay-Robbins; Nurse Trainee Tina Harris; and Receptionist Faye Moreton.
Ian Mather
BVSc (1984, Sydney University); International Veterinary Acupuncture Society Accreditation 1995
Ian has worked in both small animal and mixed practice since becoming a vet in 1984, and has experience with a wide range of small, large and exotic species. He now concentrates on small animal medicine with only occasional horse work, leaving his cattle and alpaca days well behind him! Ian is a member of the Australian Veterinary Association, the Australian Equine Veterinary Association, the Australian Veterinary Acupuncturists Association and the local Veterinary Dermatology group.
Barb Menzies
BVSc(Hons) (1987, Sydney University); Farm Animal Internship (1990-1991, Murdoch University); MBA (1992, Murdoch University)
Barb is our Practice Manager as well as being a consulting veterinarian and surgeon. She has a particular interest in surgery and is always looking to advance her skills and learn new surgical techniques. She is a member of the Australian Veterinary Association and the local Veterinary Dermatology group. As well as their three teenage children, she and Ian are the proud pet-parents of Labrador Sandy, cats Tilly and Wolf, horse Shannon, rooster Tom Junior and his hen harem.
Karl Ong
BVSc (2010, Massey University)
Karl joined us as an official staff member in August 2011 as his first Veterinary Clinic job after graduating University. Although opting for a mixed-practice track in his final year, he has always had a soft spot for the smaller furries, and especially surgery and radiology, in which he'd like to specialise in one day. Outside of work, he (overly) enjoys soccer - either playing or spectating, and can also be found singing along to the radio, or still trying to figure out how his Android phone works!
Erin Harris
Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing 2007
Erin (Ezzy) has been a Veterinary Nurse since May 2002 and along with Lauren and Rhonda, achieved her full Certificate IV qualification in 2007. Since having her little princess Millie in April 2008, Erin is working part time, but we certainly keep her busy when she is here! Erin is in charge of keeping the clinic's rebellious Reminder Card System under control, helping our clients keep track of their yearly vaccinations, rechecks and heartworm injections. She is also our Nurse Representative and organizes all our staff social events, maintains our Facebook page, and organizes our monthly Hub Happy Feet Walking group. Erin plays competitive softball in what little spare time she has, and is pet-parent to two very demanding cats, Lulu and Elly, and a beautiful and spoilt Staffy named Charlie. And as if all of that isn't enough to keep her busy, Erin is also expecting a little brother or sister for Millie in January 2012!
Lauren Green
Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing 2007
Lauren (otherwise known as Loz) started as a part time Veterinary Nurse in 2002 and achieved full Certificate IV qualification in 2007. She is one of the clinic's part time nurses and runs our Hubba Blubba Weight Loss Clinic, providing invaluable support and advice for owners with overweight pets. Lauren is mum to Shannon, who is growing up very quickly since her birth in February 2009! In between working hard and looking after Shannon and her lovely big cuddly Akita, Duke, Lauren squeezes in a bit of competitive netball!
Rhonda Gibbs
Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing 2007; Accredited Veterinary Nurse 2009
Rhonda has been a veterinary nurse since August 2004 and completed her Certificate IV qualification in 2007. She achieved Accredited Veterinary Nurse status in 2009, and regularly attends seminars and activities to further her skills and knowledge, even travelling as far as America to attend the Western Veterinary Conference there in 2010! She is a member of the Veterinary Nurses Council of Australia (VNCA) and the international Veterinary Support Personnel Network (VSPN). Rhonda is our Nursing Manager, wrestles with the weekly staff rostering, and coordinates our regular Puppy Pre-School classes and monthly Puppy Parenting nights for all new and prospective puppy owners. After a long online relationship and several trips between here and America, Rhonda finally married her soulmate Torey, in October 2010, and they are awaiting final approval for him to stay in Australia permanently.
Aimee Freckleton
Certificate II Veterinary Nursing 2008
Having started with us as a Trainee Veterinary Nurse in 2008, Aimee is nearing the end of her Certificate IV studies and should finish her exams in August 2011. After that she plans on travelling around America to experience life in another country - mainly their shopping of course! She has three cats at home, Ebony, Harlow and Chloe, who give her lots of practice in animal care and handling - it's good to know that even Veterinary Nurses have naughty pets! Aimee is our go-to girl for all our equipment maintenance problems. If you break it, she fixes it!
Katye Lemay-Robbins
Certificate II Veterinary Nursing 2010
Katye joined the Hub Veterinary team as a part time nurse in 2010, having worked in the animal industry for a few years prior. She continues her Veterinary Nursing studies through TAFE externally while studying BSc in Animal Studies part time at Adelaide University. She hopes to enroll in the Veterinary Post Graduate degree at the Roseworthy Campus when she completes that - it's all the way for Katye! She is also the exhausted pet-parent of three dogs, four cats and two horses, and somehow manages to squeeze in competitive horse dressage amongst it all!
Tina Harris
Trainee Veterinary Nurse 2011
Tina joined us in May 2011 as a Trainee Veterinary Nurse. She is currently studying her Certificate II in Veterinary Nursing part time at TAFE. Currently Tina is the owner of a blue American staffy named Jada, or better known as J-Bang.
Faye Moreton
Faye started working as our Receptionist in August 2008, coming from a background of Medical Reception at the Red Cross. She brings calm and organization to the front desk, allowing the nurses to do more of the ‘veterinary stuff' that they trained so hard for! Faye also coordinates the monthly waiting room displays and promotions.
Flynn
Flynn came to us in 2004 when a member of staff's neighbour bought him in as an injured stray and asked if we could care for him until they could locate his owners. Unfortunately no owners were found and we were faced with two choices - send him off to the RSPCA where he would face an uncertain fate or keep him as a clinic cat. Thus Flynn was castrated and microchipped and is now living it up in the clinic loved by all the staff (most of the time!) His hobbies include eating, sleeping, breaking into any foodstuffs that are left in his reach, and occasionally chasing a bottle cap across the treatment room floor. Keen-eyed visitors may spot him through the consult room doors, reclining on his throne atop the refrigerator, raining down fur onto cytology slides!
Kelly Duinker
Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing
Kelly has been working with us full time since 2009, but has many more years experience as a veterinary Nurse. She is currently on maternity leave after giving birth to her son, Sam, earlier in the year.
